Totally anomalous pulmonary venous drainage – supracardiac type: ultrasound assessment of anatomically determined stenosis of the vertical vein collecting pulmonary venous return

The diagnosis of the congenital heart defects, among others totally anomalous pulmonary venous drainage, is based on echocardiography. While the visualization of intracardiac structures rarely causes significant difficulties, the vessels positioned outside the heart, e.g. the pulmonary veins, are often hidden behind tissues impermeable to ultrasounds, which may necessitate the use of other imag...

Ultrasound diagnosis of pulmonary sling with proximal stenosis of left pulmonary artery and patent arterial duct

Authors discuss methods of echocardiographic diagnosis of the pulmonary sling with stenosis and hypoplasia of the left pulmonary artery and patent arterial duct with massive left-to-right shunt, based on a case of the newborn with resistant to treatment heart failure, with initial diagnosis of patent ductus arteriosus, referred to surgical treatment. The optimal echocardiographic views permitti...

Midterm results after surgical correction of total anomalous pulmonary venous connection

Abstract   Objective: To evaluate the surgical treatment of total anomalous pulmonary venous   connection (TAPVC) and determination of predictors for postoperative death.   Methods: Between 1995 and 2005, 80 patients aged from 1 month to 12 years underwent surgical repair for supracardiac (39), cardiac (34), infracardiac (3) or mixed (4) type of TAPVC. Systemic pulmonary hypertension (PH) in ...

Two cases of total anomalous pulmonary venous return of the supracardiac type with stenosis simulating infradiaphragmatic drainage.

T OTAL anomalous pulmonary venous return has been classified into four types: cardiac, supracardiae, infracardiae, and mixed, depending on the route by which blood is conveyed by the anomalous vein to the riaht side of the heart.' A simplified classification has recently been suggested based on the known physiologic effect of infradiaphragmatic drainage, namely pulmonary venous obstruction.2 O1...

The communication between the divided atrial chambers may be large, small or absent, depending on the size of the opening (s) in the diaphragm, which determines the d...
